Our last public workshop of the year. Limited seats, so it stays cozy.
The holidays are coming, and there is no better gift than one you made with your own two hands. Join Sydney for a festive evening of candle making, where you will pour your own luxury candle in a reclaimed glass vessel that was once headed for the landfill. Keep it for yourself, or wrap it up for someone you love.
This one is extra special to me. The Beam is my new part time home, and hosting here feels like two of my worlds finally meeting. I am so excited to be part of such an amazing makerspace and creative community, and I cannot wait to welcome you into it.
Settle in with a festive mocktail or something warm to sip, nibble on a light snack, and let the evening slow down a little. I will also have a small table of Odd Commodity goods out, in case you spot something for your gift list while you are there.
Your Ticket Includes:
• One handcrafted holiday candle poured by you in an upcycled glass vessel
• Festive mocktails and hot beverages
• A light snack
• Access to a curated selection of seasonal fragrances
• Step by step candle making instruction
• All tools and materials provided
No experience necessary. Just come ready to sip, pour, and get into the holiday spirit ❄️✨
Sliding Scale Tickets:
Every ticket gets the exact same experience. Pick the price that fits your budget, no questions asked. Growing the sustainability movement is a group effort, and keeping this craft accessible is one way I give back. Here is what each tier covers:
• Community, $40: covers your materials, food and drinks. For anyone who needs a lower price right now.
• Standard, $50: covers materials plus artist time.
• Supporter, $60: covers materials and artist time, and pays it forward to make this craft more accessible to others.
About The Beam:
The Beam is an Oakland makerspace with wood, metal and soft lab workshop spaces, and it is opening its doors to the community so creatives and artists can make, learn and build together. As their new event coordinator, I get to help bring more people into the shop, and this workshop is one of the first ways I am inviting you in.
Why We Do This:
Odd Commodity Shop is an Oakland based, sustainability focused small business transforming discarded glass into functional home goods designed to spark conversation around waste, creativity, and circular design. Every candle vessel used in this workshop was reclaimed and given a second life.
